Oh The Places They’ll Go

By Stephanie

In just about a week or so, school will be out. We don’t have any plans- ANY PLANS- for the entire summer.

I predict that our backyard will be filled with cowboys and Clone Troopers. Balls will be thrown over the fence and into the gutters. Frogs will be rescued. Large quantities of Popsicles eaten from the garage freezer.

We don’t go to Disney World. We don’t travel to the mountains to see family. We don’t even visit a nearby waterpark.

We play Red Light Green Light and tag. Spray each other with the hose. Run through a sprinkler. Create temporary masterpieces on the driveway with a big box of colored chalk. Maybe chase down the Ice Cream Man a time or two or ten.

In August, when school starts up again with new clothes and sharp pencils with erasers intact, I wish for them not to write “What I Did On My Summer Vacation”. I hope it will be “What Didn’t I Do On My Summer Vacation?”

Let the fun in the sun begin.

I think that’s a great way to spend summer vacation! We’re doing a couple of small things with the boys over summer vacation, including a visit to grandma and a family reunion, but most days will be hanging out playing in the yard, long walks to the water spray park to hang with friends and picnics – lots of picnics!!! I can’t wait, but our summer vacation doesn’t start for another month!

We dont travel during the summer either. I find it can be so much more fun to hang out at home enjoying the time we have together.

We’re kickin’ it in the backyard this year too. Just bought popsicle molds to make homemade. And we’re getting the wading pool tomorrow. After the baby goes to bed I’ll be dipping my toes in and sipping on a margarita!

We are taking our son to the zoo for the weekend. Some playdates and pools. As for my husband and I we are taking a small trip for our anniversary. We dont do much either.

YES! Our summer is shaping up the same way. And we’ve had such a gorgeous, wonderful kick-off (so far). Welcome summer! I’ve missed you!

In Malta school ends at the end of June and doesnt start before end September…I find it weird that yours start again in August! A lot of children are nowadays taken to summer school were they do sprts and various other activities…I think it would be nice for my kid to attend twice a week but I want to be able and entertain him myself and it would be less expensive anyway…I wouldnt travel in summer its too hot I prefer to vacate in winter

Oh, me too! The summers here are much too perfect to spend them any other way. Don’t forget the evening fire-pit bonfires and s’mores. Wouldn’t be summer without those.
