In Between

By Stephanie

I have never in my life been a sweat pants Mom, but earlier today I could be found digging out my most comfy black yoga pants (still maternity, ugh) from the laundry basket and making sure they were clean for tomorrow. Because nothing else fits.

I’m no longer pregnant, but definitely have not lost all of the belly yet. It’s that dreaded in-between stage. And brownies for breakfast are certainly not helping things, I’m sure.

The sky outside is a cloudy gray, leaves are falling, and suddenly it’s quite cold. Cold enough to bundle in a blanket and eat soup, but not cold enough to turn on the heat. That dreary in-between until the bitter winter.

The Vice Presidential Debate hums behind me as I type. While I am normally very conservative, circumstances and the futures of my sons and daughter have my head spinning at the difficult decision of whom I should vote for. It makes my brain hurt.

I envy the folks that are so sure about who they think is best to run our country. Because I for one am completely in the middle. Well, maybe a little more for one than the other… but it’s a bit of a scary in-between.

I know I’m not the only one that feels this uncertainty. I want what’s best for my family, for my country, for my children’s futures. And right now it feels like no one is telling the whole truth, like no one has our interests in mind, and like nothing is on solid ground.

But we must find our foothold and grab on- steady ourselves wherever we may be at the moment, even if it is in the in-between.

We have each other. We have faith. We can keep on seeking wisdom.

And we can always make more brownies.

LOVE this post. I think just about anyone can related to the in-between land where nothing is comfortable nor certain, beit with the state of our country or just of our own personal lives.

It’s trying and unnerving, but I’ve really come to realize that it’s in these times where we learn the most about ourselves and our own convictions. Thanks for the post though, it really got me thinking 🙂

I’m with ya, babe! So frustrated at the lack of straight answers the politicians are giving us.

It just may be a ‘sweatpants from the bottom of the hamper’ kind of political year ;o)

    Great post!

    Blessings!

No, you’re not alone. I too envy people who are so sure. But I’m also offended at their disgust for me NOT being sure. To me there’s just so much more to it than one or two seemingly black and white issues.
Thank you for your honesty. Made me feel a bit normal. I needed that 🙂

You have every right in the world to wear sweatpants for a few more weeks – or months!! 🙂 We ALL understand that in between stage. I remember that I was so sick of my maternity clothes but didn’t at all like how I looked in my normal clothes (the ones I could actually get on, that is.)

And as for the election, you’re certainly right – nothing seems ideal this year. But there have been a couple of other elections in my short lifetime (particularly in the 90’s) that brought fear, horror and disappointment – I remember sitting and watching the numbers come in and worrying about what was going to happen to our country. But the world didn’t fall apart – God is still in control of ALL things, even when they are grim. That’s what I’m trying to focus on this time around, so that I don’t go crazy.

    Thank goodness for that hope!

It is scary and uncertain, isn’t it? I’m always pretty firmly on the left side of things, and although that’s how I’m voting in this election, I still feel uncertain. There is just so much going on in our country right now that I don’t know what will happen next.
I remember those in between times. I remember at four weeks PP, someone said to me that wasn’t it nice to be back in regular jeans? And I was mortified because, yeah, I was still rocking the maternity jeans.

I’m feeling ya girl. Voting isn’t easy when you have your own kids futures to think about. Even though I’m typically conservative also it still wasn’t the easiest decision and to be honest, I’m just ready for all this to be over so my head can stop spinning 😉

And I’m sure you’ll be down to your pre-Ivy weight soon and sporting all your cute duds! I do actually love sweats myself 😉 lol

So well said. Having just attended an amazing wedding last weekend I had moments of clarity and understanding about how people get through the really rough times, the uncertain times, the scary times. We go on being parents, friends, getting married, teaching our children how to wash their hands, and kissing our spouses as they go off to work in the morning.

I ate brownies for breakfast, lunch and dinner many days after I had my baby girl. Luckily the 24 hours of nursing each she insisted on kept the weight off. I guess that was only sort of lucky.

I am with Daneen. Seriously with you, on all of it. It’s so difficult, isn’t it?

I feel like both sides are pulling wool over our eyes. It is so hard with this election, there are so many huge things this next president and representatives will have to take on. ugh.

enjoy the in between before you blink she’ll be taking her first steps…

    Hugs,
    Heidi

I’m not a great in-betweener. I don’t mind change, but I don’t like vacillation. So this time of year is always hard. There is so much up in the air right now.

I totally agree. This is the first election that I haven’t been sure about who I was goin to vote for at this time. I am still torn, but enjoyed listening to a real debate. It’s hard to keep the facts straight. Thanks for helping me realize I’m not the only one in this state of mind.
