Happy Thanksgiving! Ari Has Croup!

By Sarah Fader

It’s been four days of madness around here. Every night for the past three nights Ari has woken up between 3-4am with 103 fever. Last night the fever was accompanied by a disturbing wheezing sound. We took him to the doctor today and he was diagnosed with Croup. It makes sense because his cough sounds like a barking dog. This sort of cough is consistent with Croup.

Needless to say, it’s been extremely difficult to get him back to sleep at night and during the day for naps. So what am I thankful for right now? This:

I haven’t showered in four days, and I’ve been a chicken soup-making machine*, but I don’t care. I just want him to get better already.

Have your kids had croup? Do tell!

*I make my chicken soup from scratch, if you want the recipe email me at [email protected]

Croup is SO scary sounding but really tame if you can get it under control! Our best solution was a steamy bathroom and then immediate exposure to cold air! Hope all is well!

My children have not had Croup, but I had Croup constantly as a child. It was so bad a few times I had to stay in the hospital in an oxygen tent. Steamy bathroom worked really well. There isn’t much you can do besides that.

Aw, I’m sorry you guys have had a rough go of it. I remember that croup cough so well…my brother got croup every year, 2x a year until he was 10 I think. It’s a horrible sound and must be so scary for those kids. She sounds like a trooper though!

As silly as this sounds, but I had croup once in 5th grade (Yes, I remember this to this day) and I had to stay home. I was so upset because that was the day we were supposed to give our student council speeches and I missed it.
