Welcome Spring, I hope you die.

Guest post by Jenna

If you live in Texas, you know exactly what I’m talking about. I can’t speak for anyone else’s weather conditions, because truthfully I can’t complain about the weather in Texas. My kids are able to play outside for about 10 months out of the year. The other 2 months it’s too cold and wet. (Ahem, when it reaches 30 degrees, but since none of us Texans invest in true waterproof winter jackets or snow boots – they don’t sell them here!, we don’t really have the ability to go outside without freezing our buns off.) The hotter the better for me – I love being outside in the 100 degree (F) heat of the Summer. Seriously. I’ll take it over -50 (F) or whatever it is you people on the East coast have had this winter. *shivers*

So, what is it that I dread the most? Seasonal allergies. Yep, all those commercials you see about all those different allergy medicines to try? [Or do they only show those in Texas?]  I am a walking billboard for those medications. I’m actually allergic to most allergy medications, ironically.

When Spring comes around, the grass is green again, we have Daylight Savings Time change to make us feel like we see more light during the day, and the temperatures are a little warmer than they were just a few weeks ago. Not bad. I also love the feeling of New Life. New babies, new perspectives, new routines and schedules; this is the time of year that I feel like I can actually get some of those New Year’s Resolutions accomplished, now that the weight of Christmas and the dread of the new year is over. And, with only a few weeks left until school is out, it’s time to start all those wonderful projects I had in mind – now that the weather is cooperating. I do enjoy the hope and promise of Summer just around the corner.

I guess my only complaint is when the flowers start blooming. That is bad, bad news. And did I mention I wear contact lenses too? So for the rest of you in the other 49 states and Canada, I will make you a banner that says “Welcome Spring, fah-vu-dah-du” (or whatever the lyrics are from that Welcome Christmas song from the original “The Grinch who Stole Christmas” movie.)  But you won’t see any banners of that nature on my front door. My spring banner is a bunch of dirty Kleenex. *honk, blows nose*

Anyone else suffer from seasonal allergies? Or year-round allergies, since I live in the allergy capital of the world? What do you look forward to doing in the Spring?

jenna wishes she looked forward to spring more. She sometimes blogs about Spring-related things like flowers and grass at [kevin and jenna [dot] com]. And then she goes to blow her nose after thinking about them.

Yes! I live in TX too and just last year, after a lifetime of no allergies (didn’t grow up here), got SLAMMED. So my love affair with spring and fall has become somewhat more ambivalent. Off to use the Neti Pot … 😉

What spring? What fall? We have 6 seasons in Texas – fall, winter, spring, summer, summer, and summer. You know what I’m talking about. 🙂

PS – thanks for your comment here and on my blog! I will get back to you on the couponing thing.

I live in TX too. And yes I have allergies. Way worse in the spring than the fall, for me. Usually Zyrtec works great for me, but this spring the effect has been minimal at best. So annoying!

I also prefer the extreme heat to even a hint of cold. I’m just a wimp.

The start of baseball season is my favorite thing about spring!

yeah, it’s bad in KS, too. I’m on 5 meds just to get by… and still wake with a sinus headache every.single.morning. I have a love/hate relationship with spring in KS. I love that our horrid winter is nearly over but hate the allergies. Plus there’s the constant spring tornado threat, but that’s a different subject altogether. ;o)
