Honestly, I Don’t Know WHERE She Gets These Ideas! (Ahem.)

By Megan

I took the kids up to the library last Thursday morning for story time. Bean sat down among the other children and Peabody sat on her lap. She snuggled him close and beamed with such pride! It was adorable, if I do say so myself.

Inevitably (and happily, I might add. I have nothing against seasonal literature at library story time. No bahs or humbugs here!) the subject of the day was Thanksgiving. And pilgrims. And turkey. Hot melted marshmallows on sweet potato casserole. Creamy mashed potatoes. Rich, velevety gravy spilling over perfectly-crisp-on-the-top sagey stuffing. Hot yeast rolls with pats of soft, sweet-salty butter. Pumpkin and pecan pie peeping out from fluffy mounds of freshly whipped cream.

Oooooooooooooh… Sigh.

Wait, where was I? Oh yeah. Story time.

Our esteemed youth librarian started the morning off with a discussion about Thanksgiving. “What will you have for Thanksgiving dinner this year?” she asked, innocently.

In unison, 7 little voices chimed in, “TURKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!”

“Right,” she said, “Turkey! And all the trimmings! Mmmmm … I love cranberry sauce with my turkey.”

And then, also inevitably, the 8th little voice chimed in. The little voice I know by heart. And with that first, “You know what?” of hers, I knew this was going to be One of Those Moments.

“You know what?” she asked.

“What!?” the librarian shot back excitedly.

“We’re not going to HAVE turkey at my house this Thanksgiving!”

“You’re NOT?” she queried, beginning to look a little uncomfortable.

No! We’re gonna eat my baby brother’s big fat juicy THIGHS!” she squealed out, hugging Peabody closer and grinning ear to ear.

Happy Thankgiving and big fat juicy (turkey) thighs to all of you, from all of us at 5 Minutes for Parenting.

Megan blogs about life and sometimes posts recipes, but so far none for baby legs, even though she’s been tempted too many times to count to just gobble one up, at FriedOkra.

Also, we are actually NOT having turkey this Thanksgiving – we’re having a brunch with biscuits & gravy & omelettes, and then a Mexican dinner with enchiladas & cheese dip, since the Broncos play on Thanksgiving day. 🙂 So, if you’re really NOT having turkey, it’s okay. 🙂

That’s hysterical. But me thinks you neglected to tell us that everyone else in the library burst out laughing once Bean had finished her comment. Because please. That’s classic.

(I’m still salivating over your description of the side dishes, by the way. Can’t. Wait.)

So funny! We could easily NOM on our boy’s thighs, too, but we’re having turkey. 🙂
