5 Minutes for Parenting’s weekly column, A Dose of Humor, is here to remind you to take your humor pill regularly as the best medicine to treat the side effects of parenting! It features a different blogger every week and is hosted by Rachel at Grasping for Objectivity in My Subjective Life. Now you can also join in by linking in your funniest moment of the week in the comments of this post!!
It’s been almost a year now that I’ve been writing and featuring other writers here at A Dose of Humor. Throughout the past year, a lot of people have asked me how I was able to get this fun and amazing opportunity.
Well, you see, it wasn’t easy.
I had to bug Stephanie for eons, and she shot down a TON of column ideas before she let me run with A Dose of Humor.
I knew I wanted to do a column where all of you could contribute your own life experiences, so I brainstormed, and brainstormed, and brainstormed some more about what the column’s topic should be.
My first idea was :
A Dose of Anxiety: Things that you haven’t BEEN worrying about your kids, but you just might should add to your list-o-paranoias.
Now Steph is the sweetest person you’d ever want to talk to, but I could feel even her shudder in her response email. Then, I tried pitching this one:
A Dose of Deception: Secrets that you’d NEVER want your husband to know, and tips on how to hide them.
Stephanie didn’t like that one, and neither did my husband. So I said, well, how about
A Dose of Floozy: How to REALLY perfect “the look” so that YOU can be known as the overly-trampy-looking Mom at the playground.
It was a no-go. Then I proposed:
A Dose of Headache: A place for Moms to come together and share their best strategies for “Not tonight, Honey.”
She just didn’t feel like that one went with the idea of 5 Minutes for Parenting.
After feeling a bit down about all of my column failed attempts, I thought up:
A Dose of Depression: Because Depression Hurts. . . .Everyone.
(Since I LOVE that commercial and all.)
After being turned down so many times, I was starting to doubt my call as a writer. And then, it hit me.
“Hey! I like humor! I even attempt to write humor!! How about A Dose of Humor!!”
And the rest was history.
When Rachel isn’t concocting stupid and ridiculous column ideas, she can be found waxing oh-so-unpoetically at Grasping for Objectivity in my Subjective Life.
Looking forward to regular doses!
