A Dose of Humor – Woe Da Pay!!!

A Dose of Humor5 Minutes for Parenting’s weekly column, A Dose of Humor, is here to remind you to take your humor pill regularly as the best medicine to treat the side effects of parenting! It features a different blogger every week and is hosted by Rachel at Grasping for Objectivity in My Subjective Life.

This week’s contributor, Amy, is a 30-something mother of two pre-schoolers. She blogs about how life isn’t turning out how she expected, and loving that God knew  that her heart desired more. Amy blogs at Flexible Dreams.

We were driving in the car the other day when I became aware of Hannah saying something over and over.

“Woe Da Pay! I want to see Woe Da Pay!”

“Hannah,” I finally interrupt, “What is woe da pay?” In my head I’m repeating it, trying to figure out what it means, WOEdapay, woedaPAY, woedapaywoedapaywoedapay. Is it Chinese? Is she a genius? No luck.

“I want to see Woe Da Pay!” She says again.

We go back and forth like this for a while when Christopher finally intervenes.

“Hannah, you need to put your tongue up on the roof like this.” He demonstrates, making an “R” sound.

Hannah sticks her tongue out and says, “Woe Da Pay!”

But that’s what I needed to figure out the Hannah-language. “ROLLED UP HAY!” I shout.

Both kids look at me like I’m nuts.

“Yeah mom, rolled up hay. Hannah wants to see rolled up hay.”

“Woe Da Pay in the gwass!”

Christopher returns to speech therapy session with his little sister. “Try it again Hannah. Put your tongue like this.”

After several unsuccessful attempts he finally says, “That’s not quite what I was looking for, Hannah.”

Ah well, maybe next time.

That totally reminds me of my son giving my daughter speech therapy in the car. The things they say, in their vast superiority! Love your son’s punch line.

I laughed so hard! Me and my friends have a competition to see who can figure out what Aiden is saying first! It is quite amusing!

I have a 2 year old who sometimes says things that make me say “huh”? Good luck and know all moms experience it.
